Urge Arizona to Repeal Anti-immigrant Law
Advocacy Campaign: June 2010 – September 2011
On September 24, 2011, NAFSA’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to suspend the prohibition on NAFSA meetings in the state of Arizona, while continuing to actively pursue the association’s immigration policy agenda.
NAFSA and the Connecting Our World community will continue to urge the U.S. Congress to fix the country’s broken immigration system and pursue lasting solutions to our immigration challenges that are consistent with our values.
Most recently, NAFSA Executive Director and CEO Marlene M. Johnson sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, requesting that he take immediate action against anti-immigrant laws in Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina, and Utah by challenging them in court. The Department has already filed suit against the states of Alabama and Arizona over anti-immigrant laws in those states.
